We are a self-organized association of progressive Jewish Michigan voters who support the candidacy of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for the United States Senate. Abdul has a strong record of leadership on behalf of working people rather than powerful and elite interests. Unlike his political rivals, he has never accepted corporate or AIPAC contributions, which would make him beholden to special interests or foreign
governments. As a physician he brings a healer’s wisdom and compassion to the many problems facing the people of our country and the rest of the world. He has a record of environmental championship, he is an advocate for universal, guaranteed healthcare, he has courageously called for the abolition of ICE, and he has consistently opposed funding U.S. military misadventures overseas.
Abdul’s election to the United States Senate would be advantageous for all, including for Jews, because of his strong opposition to antisemitism and all forms of bigotry. He distinguishes clearly between the Jewish people and their religion on the one hand, and the discriminatory, violent actions of the Israeli government on the other. Like us, Abdul understands that Israeli denial of Palestinians’ human rights, including their right to self-determination, is incompatible with the values and ethics many - we believe most - Jews hold dear.
Abdul correctly recognizes that the Israeli government does not speak for all Jewish people, or even for all Jewish citizens of Israel. Israel’s nation-state law claims that it is “the nation-state of the Jewish people,” not of its Muslim or Christian citizens, and certainly not of all the millions living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Israel’s claim to represent Jews everywhere is a significant driver of antisemitism because all Jews are seen as supporting Israel’s human rights violations.
Consistent with the views of nearly all the world’s human rights organizations and genocide scholars, including Israeli scholars, Abdul - but not his primary opponents - has long called the war in Gaza a “genocide of the Palestinian people.”
Abdul has been in the forefront of attempts to change the U.S. policy of unconditional support for Israel. The Democratic Party’s recent autopsy of why it lost the 2024 Presidential election reveals that Kamala Harris’ ”Israel right or wrong” policy was a significant reason for her loss. While Abdul ultimately made the pragmatic decision to endorse Harris, he was an outspoken voice calling for the Democratic Party to
see that it could not win the votes needed from youth, Arab Americans or Muslim Americans if Harris would not break with Joe Biden’s unconditional support for Israel.
Alone among his rivals, Abdul has properly characterized Israel’s US-enabled genocide in Gaza to be among the most immoral events of our time, tragic for both Israel and the United States.
Endorsed by both Bernie Sanders and Andy Levin, Abdul advocates an immediate cessation of military aid to Israel.
In conjunction with Abdul’s criticism of our aid to Israel, he has campaigned against foreign militarism in general and for shifting tax dollars to domestic needs for working people, like “Medicare for All,” affordable housing, and education.
Abdul believes that we best protect our security at home and abroad by enacting a foreign policy based not on unfettered militarism, but rather on diplomacy, cooperation, and the protection and expansion of human rights.
For all the above reasons, we invite you to help us elect Dr. Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate. Abdul has been and will continue to be a courageous and moral leader. He will represent all of us, not the privileged few, and will create the transformative change we need in these dark and perilous times.
